Removing the dampening pulley?

I have a 2006 Dodge Magnum 2.7L DOHC, the water pump recently went out and left me stranded for about 5 hours.....as me and my mechanic buddy started to take the motor apart the next day to get to said water pump we realized that you need a special tool to remove the dampening pulley...my question is..is there a way to remove said pulley without the special tool??
