Why are we so obsessed with celebrities?

I just can't get enough of Brittany Spears, and the Lindsay Lohans.....Do you think it's because we secretly live our lives through them? I find myself daydreaming and wishing that when I was younger and in the best shape of my life I would've tried to break into Hollywood....all the glamor and fame. I suppose it has its downside too... living in front of the camera's is no picnic....what do you think?
