Does having a multiracial family make you see race differently?

Like in my family I have a lot of Creole people, people who are 1/4 black and look completely white, and I have a few family members who look more Native American than black or white. My grandmother is very light-skinned and said she knew some that some of her cousins even ped as white during the 60s but she chose not too.
